I'm on a quest to save money this year. Last year I was a bit unrestricted with my money spending, but I realize that I can't keep doing that, so I'm going to not only try and spend less on every day stuff, but also try to reduce my expenses for stuff that I have to buy. My sister is kind of doing the same thing so maybe I should call her and get some ideas.
First I'm going to call my cable company and get rid of some of the channels that I have that I don't ever watch. I have all these movie channels that I never really watch and they're costing me extra money each month. I don't even really watch that much TV in the first place, and I've sometimes considered dropping my cable TV subscription altogether. I'd have to keep internet, though.
Next I need to see if I can find a place with cheaper car insurance. I want to do an auto insurance comparison and see if I can find a cheaper option anywhere. I don't even know if this will be possible but I figure it can't hurt to check.
I'm also even thinking about finding somewhere else to live or seeing if I can negotiate a lower rent where I'm living now. Again, probably not possible, but it can't hurt to try.
And I need to stop getting coffee every morning. I've developed this bad habit over the years where I get a cup of a coffee every morning to drink at work. There's a coffee shop in our office so it's super convenient to go there whenever I need coffee, but the problem is that it adds up. We have a coffee machine with free coffee in our office so technically I don't need to spend a few bucks on a cup of coffee from the store. I'm sure it adds up to $10-20 per week at least and that's money that I should be saving for something else. So note to self, start drinking the free coffee. I'll have to get some flavored creamers or something to give myself some variety.
So I know none of these are really very big changes, but it's the small things that add up. I'm sure I will think of some more things I can do to save money. I should start making a list with specific things I can do as well as how much money they will save me. I think that might help me stay motivated.
